I have been a reporter in the U.S. and China since 1996.
My work, to me, is an act of translation. Whether a story happens in a foreign country, a city neighborhood, or an industry steeped in jargon, it speaks its own language, one that outsiders may not understand.
My job is to decode accurately and explain clearly. That means observing without prejudice, listening without bias, writing without ego, and asking question upon question until I truly understand.
This is how I work because of who I am and where I’ve been.
